Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a non-invasive, drug free alternative for pain- and stress-relief. Also known as tapping, EFT is one of several energy therapies that include Healing Touch, Reiki, Qi gong, therapeutic bodywork, and magnet therapy.
EFT belongs to a group of health practices known as complementary and alternative medicine (CAM.) Basically, it is a healing system outside standard medical care. In cancer treatment, EFT is sometimes used as integrative therapy alongside other CAM therapies and conventional medical treatments. It is therapy worth exploring, whether someone has treatable skin cancer or is diagnosed with a more serious rare form of cancer like mesothelioma, integrative therapy serves to bridge the gap that lacks within traditional medicine.
Energy Healing Defined
Energy therapies involve life energy fields. They are intended to affect the universal life energy that surrounds everything and unites the body and mind. EFT, Healing Touch, and similar therapies are unconventional cancer treatments. They are not as common as exercise therapies like yoga or alternative systems like acupuncture. According to the Office of Cancer Complimentary and Alternative Medicine (OCCAM,) there is no scientific evidence to support their effectiveness. Nevertheless, more and more patients are turning to alternative and therapeutic touch as part of their overall cancer care. Anecdotal reports from patients and practitioners suggest a number of benefits for cancer treatment. In fact, many patients and therapists consider energy healing to be the ultimate integrative cancer therapy. How can one not believe that to heal the mind ultimately prepares the body to heal?
Traditional treatments like radiation and chemotherapy, while effective for fighting cancer cells, typically leave patients with negative side effects like pain, nausea, and stress. Energy healing minimizes all this, restoring balance to the whole person. Uniting mind, body, and spirit, energy therapies truly promote wellness in its entirety.
Energy Healing Benefits
In the disruptive world of cancer, EFT tapping gives patients a sense of control and well-being. It offers hope, even for patients facing a late-stage malignancy like pancreatic cancer, or a short mesothelioma life expectancy. Energy healing can help these terminally ill patients accept impending death and reach inner peace.
Unlike EFT tapping, therapeutic touch is energy healing with both scientific and anecdotal proof. According to Healing Touch International the therapy was examined in more than 100 studies of Healing Touch on people with various chronic illnesses, including cancer. Compared to the control groups, the energy therapy groups showed documented improvements in their depression, anxiety, and anger levels.
Time and again, energy healing has been shown, or is reported to be, an overall holistic and supportive experience for cancer patients. It appears to be effective for helping patients cope with pain and stress of traditional treatments. And most of all, it gives patients a better quality of life and feeling of hope.
