The Stupa is a domed Buddhist monument. When the Buddha died, his cremated remains were said to have been interred in eight stupas in eight seperate locations. The stupa soon came to symbolise the Buddha's passing ito 'Mahaparinirvana', the highest state of Nirvana, and his release from his cycle of rebirth.
